Ultrafast Coherent Raman Spectroscopy of Ignition-Kernels and Flame Propagation in Vitiated Flows
Descriptif
The PhD candidate will develop innovative coherent imaging technologies - coherent Raman spectroscopy (CRS) - with new powerful capabilities in retrieving spatially and temporally correlated chemical composition and temperature in rapid gas-phase reacting flows. The intrapulse combination – femtosecond/picosecond CRS - which combines highly efficient impulsive excitation in the time domain (femtosecond laser pulse) with high resolution detection in the frequency domain (picosecond laser pulse) will be utilized. The Delft jet in hot coflow flame and a fuel-flexible combustor will be utilized to study transitional regimes into the flameless combustion mode. The CRS multiplexing of the combustion process at these experiments will provide valuable information on the complete oxidation of the reactants, the air-entrainment- and the flue-gas-recirculation processes as a consequence of the complex fluid dynamics involved. A deliverable for the project is to produce statistics on the effect of vitiation on ignition-kernels and to make direct observations of the heat release from these events.
